Unemployed Saudi teachers stage rare protest

Riyadh-a group of 200 unemployed Saudi teachers staged a rare protest in Riyadh Sunday, four months after a similar group demonstrated for three days in the same area. The Group of teachers gathered in front of the Ministry of education for a few hours, demanding the Government find them jobs, before authorities dispersed them. Sunday protest follows a few rare public display of discontent and signs of dissent by youth in the monarchy. August last year protested over 200 unemployed academics with Arabic language degrees for three days. They left only after receiving promises of employment. In March 2009 protested a second group of unemployed teachers also in front of King Abdullah palace. The Government unemployment say that in the oil-rich, conservative Kingdom rose to 10.5 percent, as job creation could not be in line with the growing population. Of these unemployed hold 44 percent of college degrees. However, argue unofficial statistics that unemployment has reached their peak to 20 percent.
